IATA and FIATA announce the latter’s endorsement of the IATA Cargo Handling Manual (ICHM). The decision has taken place after one-year process of discussions, review, and collaboration between the two organisations. The ICHM provides standardised procedures for airlines, ground handling agencies, and forwarders, to ensure efficiency throughout the cargo process. By adopting these standards, the forwarders, airlines and GHAs will leverage with their respective expertise to improve efficiency across the supply chain. “FIATA’s endorsement of the ICHM supports IATA’s goal of creating a safer, more efficient air cargo industry. Standardization of procedures reduces risks, enhances operational performance, and improves efficiency. Importantly, it benefits the global supply chain and people dependant on it,” Brendan Sullivan, Global Head, Cargo, IATA, said. “FIATA has worked closely with IATA in reviewing the ICHM, providing input to ensure that it addresses the specific needs of forwarders of all sizes around the world, including the SMEs. FIATA prioritises safety and security, and this collaboration ensures it strengthens mutual recognition across stakeholders, driving operational efficiency, safety, and cost savings throughout the supply chain,” Stéphane Graber, Director-General, FIATA, observed.
