Hamad airport tonnages rise by 12% in first half of 2024

Doha’s Hamad International Airport cargo traffic, as measured in tonnages, rose by 12 per cent in the first six months of this year compared to the first half of 2023. It handled a total of 1.25 million tonnes of cargo over the January-June period. In June, Hamad International handled 213,873 tonnes of cargo. The gateway has already welcomed new carriers this year, including Japan Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, China Southern Airlines and Akasa Air. These carriers added to new visitors Iberia, Xiamen Airlines and Vistara, which all added to the airport’s network late last year. Hamad International has completed the first phase of its airport expansion project, which increased capacity. There was a total of 138,471 aircraft movements through the gateway over the first six months of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 19 per cent. Its main customer is Qatar Airways, which is the world’s largest air cargo carrier.
