DP World Romania doubles capacity in Black Sea port

DP World Romania has boosted its container shipping capacity at the Black Sea port of Constanta, doubling it to 1.5 million TEUs from the 700,000 TEUs handled in 2023. This expansion is part of a €130 million (US$139.31 million) investment, including EU grants, which also enhances cargo and freight operations. The new project cargo facilities for high-value, complex equipment and a roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) terminal capable of handling 80,000 vehicles annually. “We are targeting new trade flows, especially from Turkey and Georgia to Romania and Europe,” Cosmin Carstea, CEO, DP World Romania, said. “We see potential for furniture, automotive, and consumer goods industries, both imports and exports,” Carstea added, estimating full platform usage within five years. The new facilities could boost other cargo flows by two million metric tonnes per annum. DP World Romania also acquired a scanner for the state customs agency, improving processing from four to 60 trucks per hour.
