The prospects for air cargo will also be discussed at the event. IATA released data for April 2024 global air cargo markets showing strong annual growth in demand into Q2 of 2024. Total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometers, rose by 11.1 per cent compared to April 2023 levels (11.6% for international operations).
This is the fifth consecutive month of double-digit year-on-year growth. Capacity, measured in available cargo tonne-kilometers (ACTKs), increased by 7.1 per cent compared to April 2023 (10.2% for international operations). In April, PMIs for global manufacturing output and new export orders turned positive (51.5 and 50.5 ppt respectively). This is the first time in two years that the new export orders PMI has been in growth territory. “Dubai’s world-leading connectivity places it at the crossroads of the planet. It will soon be the center of the airline industry’s leadership,” Willie Walsh, Director General, IATA, said. “Aviation contributed 27 per cent to Dubai’s GDP and supported US$37 billion in gross value addition last year,” Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said. “We look forward to showcasing Dubai’s growth and hospitality.”
