Avelia, a SAF book-and-claim platform under the Shell Group, is expanding into air freight, Raman Ojha, President, Shell Aviation, said. Previously focused on business travel, Avelia will now use its blockchain technology to track and allocate SAF emissions savings for forwarders and shippers. This move addresses the air cargo industry’s need for accurate emissions tracking as it targets reductions through SAF adoption. “By enabling the sharing of environmental attributes between physical SAF users and organisations seeking to meet their sustainability targets, Avelia creates a pathway for broader participation in aviation decarbonisation. It is evolving to meet the air freight sector’s need for solutions to demonstrate verified emissions reduction progress. By giving access to forwarders SAF environmental attributes to their shipping customers, both parties can access these attributes for emissions disclosure while supporting broader SAF adoption,” Ojha added.
