Logistics provider Agility has invested $10 million to expand its regional logistics hub in Bahrain by 28,500 sqm, increasing storage capacity by an additional 17,000 pallet positions and increase the workforce by almost 25 per cent to 270. The new facility supports contract logistics with ambient, chilled and frozen storage, as well as solutions for high-value cargo.
It follows expansion of the company’s overland fleet in Bahrain to support its regional operations and will offer secure records management and storage and turnkey logistics for Bahrain-based manufacturers in the fast-moving consumer goods industry.
The facility was inaugurated by Under-Secretary of Industry Affairs Osama Al Arrayedh, who was deputised by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani. A provider of cross-border transportation also, Agility owns and operates a fleet of more than 200 vehicles. It also facilitates customs brokerage for a number of multinational organisations based in Bahrain.
Al Rumaihi said: “Bahrain offers the lowest setup and operating costs for a logistics business with cost savings of 30 to 40pc compared with the rest of the GCC. This has encouraged several companies to set up businesses here and access the GCC and the Arab world. Agility’s investments in the local logistics industry are testament to the business confidence that Bahrain provides.”
