Middle East carriers outperformed with a 13 per cent year-on-year growth in demand, supported by a 5.5 per cent increase in capacity, Willie Walsh, Director General, IATA, said. In December 2024 alone, the region recorded a 3.3 per cent rise in demand and a marginal 0.2 per cent capacity increase, highlighting its pivotal role in the global air cargo market. “Air cargo has been the standout performer in 2024 with airlines moving more cargo than ever before. Demand, up 11.3 per cent year-on-year, was boosted by e-commerce and various ocean shipping restrictions,” he added.
