Middle Eastern carriers have recorded 0.5 per cent increase in cargo volumes in June 2023 compared to 2022, according to a new IATA report. Releasing data for global air cargo in June 2023, IATA stated, “Both Middle East-Asia and Middle East-Europe route areas witnessed annual growth. For the first half of the year, cargo demand was down 5.6 per cent compared to a year ago, with an 11.2 per cent increase in cargo capacity.” Despite this, industry professionals believe the Middle East is slated to be one of the fastest-growing airline markets in the world in the next decade owing to large scale transformations planned by many Gulf countries and entities. The development of key transit hubs for cargo is also seen in a positive light.
